Adventure of a lifetime
From start to finish this didn't only meet, but far exceeded our expectations. The accommodation was impeccable, the food was fantastic and the experiences could not have been more special. We saw all of the African Big 5, including the elusive leopard and rhino. The countless herds of elephants on our first day were magical. Our second and third days in the Serengeti were staggering and our trip into the Ngorongoro Crater was absolutely breathtaking. Then to top it off, our trip to Zanzibar could not have been better. White, sandy beaches and gorgeous turquoise water. A special shout out to our guide, Eric, who was flawless from start to finish. Knowledgable, friendly and charismatic, he could not have done more to make our trip better. He was so flexible and adhering at all times, allowing us to shape our days in the bush. 'Lovely jubbly', as he'd now say after a few English slang lessons! Michaela and Alfani, your two beautiful boys, Eric, and everyone else that we had the pleasure to spend time with, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making our trip so special. Honeymoon of our dreams!
My husband and I had the most amazing honeymoon, all booked through Luna Safari. Everything was perfect from start to finish. Michaela made the planning process so easy, which was especially appreciated while we were in the midst of stressful wedding planning. Upon arrival to Tanzania, Alfani picked us up from the airport with the warmest welcome and champagne. We were lucky enough to be paired with Eric as our safari guide. He made sure our safari was epic and SO much fun!!!!! We saw every animal that we could see in Tanzania, and we had so much fun getting to know him and the culture in Tanzania. He took so many photos for us that we will cherish forever. We feel like we became instant friends with Eric and we are so grateful for our time with him. All of the hotels we stayed at were so clean, special, and unique. The staff were all so welcoming and went above and beyond to make our honeymoon special. All of the food we ate everywhere was great. After safari, we flew to Zanzibar for a few nights, which Michaela also planned for us. We had an incredible time there as well, and it was so nice to be able to relax and recharge after an adventurous time on safari. We cannot recommend Luna Safari enough. Amazing in every way
We used Luna Safari for our honeymoon and we could not have been more pleased with our experience. They planned and picked the most amazing lodges and our guide Steven was very knowledgeable and personable. We would recommend them to anyone looking to do a Tanzanian safari or Zanzibar beach getaway! Luna is the ONLY safari option!
We just returned from a 10 safari and beach vacation all planned by Luna Safari. Let me start by saying you have a ton of options when choosing a safari, but there is only one Luna. Luna is a small family company that packs a big punch. You might think that picking a big company is better, but I can tell you from our experience, smaller it better (IMO). You won't get a random person on the phone or chat every time you have a question, you get Michaela. Luna has multiple options from budget, mid-range and luxury to accommodate all needs and budgets. And within those ranges you have multiple options. ALL of the choices she made for us were absolutely perfect. We met three of the four guides while we were traveling the roads, and they were all great. Coming from the US, I appreciated how professional they looked and carried themselves. You will see tons of companies, and some of the guides look like they just crawled out of bed! I started planning a year in advance, and Michaela was super responsive and patient with all of my questions and concerns. From the accommodations to the special touches on my birthday, she had every detail covered. The wheel cover on our jeep even had "birthday girl on board." Our guide Anderson, made sure we were happy and we saw the big 5. You can see the love and care that Michaela and Alfani put into this company. They are a true representation of Tanzania. The perfect 40th birthday safari with Luna Safari!
For years going on an African safari has been on my travel bucket list. I decided a year ago I was ready to check the trip off my list to celebrate my 40th birthday with my best friends. I’m an avid traveler (over 20 countries visited so far, both solo and with family and friends), so I started my research to find the best company for my trip. I came across Luna Safari through some of my go-to Facebook groups and followed up with some deep dives on trusted travel sites. They are a small business (love to support!) and their service and expertise was phenomenal! I decided to go with Luna Safari because of their amazing reviews, and my correspondence with Michaela (who was so responsive and was able to answer all of my questions throughout the process). I 100% made the right decision! Our trip was nothing short of a dream come true! We had an amazing 5 day safari, seeing all of the big 5, plus sooo many more amazing animals. Our Safari guide Anderson was the best! He was friendly and knowledgeable. He made sure to get to know our preferences and tailored the experience to what we wanted from our trip. He was also so much fun to hang out with on our journeys to each park! Our safari started in Tarangire, we spent two days in the Serengeti, and visited both the Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara. Our accommodations were perfect! A special shoutout to the Ang’ata Camp Serengeti, which was actually in the Serengeti park!The tent was well appointed (keep in mind you are in the park, so power is limited to night hours, and showers require a hot water bucket, which only takes them 5 minutes to prepare), and the food and service was FANTASTIC (can not stress this enough). There were even amazing animals wondering right outside our room (don’t worry, the staff keep you completely safe!) Michaela made sure to add personal touches throughout our trip (birthday celebrations at each location, check-ins, and the whole family even picked us up when we arrived in Arusha with a bottle of sparkling wine!). Following our Safari, Michaela arranged a 5 day beach stay at the Z hotel in Zanzibar (she even booked the fight over). We finished our vacation with 5 days by the beach and pool, sipping wine, snorkeling, swimming in the Indian Ocean, and I couldn’t resist getting a hot stone massage. This was the perfect way to end a perfect trip! I highly recommend Luna Safari if you are planning a trip! Amazing Adventure with Luna Safari!
For as long as I can remember, going on a safari in Tanzania was my dream vacation, and Luna Safari made this dream a reality. My friends and I began planning our adventure over a year ago, and Luna Safari guided us each step of the way. From crafting the perfect safari and accommodations to match our exact needs to connecting us to the best guide ever (shout out to Anderson!), this dream vacation was just that…a dream. After spending one night in Dar Es Salam, founders Michaela and Alfani, and their adorable son Arlo—who knows so much about the animals in Tanzania!— picked us up in Arusha, where we started our journey. It was so lovely to meet this incredible family. Michaela was amazing to work with the entire time we planned our trip. She promptly answered all of our (many) questions and stayed in contact with us throughout the safari. The night before our safari began, we stayed at the gorgeous Rivertrees Country Inn where we ate, drank wine by the fire, and rested before the adventure of a lifetime commenced! Our guide, Anderson, picked us up by 7:30 the next morning and off to Tarangire National Park we went. On day one we saw THREE of the Big Five! Day two began our adventure in Serengeti. Words cannot describe this experience. We saw four of the Big Five, slept amongst the stars (and hippos, hyenas, and zebras!) at Ang’ata Serengeti Camp, and got to know the amazing people of Tanzania who welcomed us with open arms. In Ngorogoro Crater, we spotted the fifth of the Big Five. I can honestly say we saw every animal we wanted to see, and our guide was a wealth of knowledge. He answered all of our questions, set up the most lovely picnic lunches each day, and stopped for frequent bathroom breaks (which he knew I needed—inside joke of the trip!). Anderson was a delight. ..and I cannot forget to mention that Luna Safari told our accommodations that it was our friend Sarah’s birthday, so our jeep was furnished in a “Birthday girl” tire cover and every accommodation celebrated her birthday! It was such fun! Lake Manyara was also amazing. I still cannot get over the majestic allure of Tanzania and the differences in its habitat depending on where you go. I fell in love with the country, its people, and its magic. Luna Safari planned the end of our stay at the Z Hotel in Zanzibar. They arranged our transport and flight to this beautiful island. Everything was taken care of—which took the stress off of us. Five days of sand, the bluest waters, cocktails, relaxation, and sun ended our safari adventure (not to mention a little snorkeling and swimming with dolphins!). I cannot recommend Luna Safari more. What a truly amazing experience. We reached out to Michaela (the owner) just about 12 months prior to our trip to start planning - she was always accessible and answered our many questions. She personalized our trip in every way possible picking the best accommodations, with many options and planning our 5-day safari just right! The additional 4 days relaxing in Zanzibar to follow was perfection. We loved working with this very intimate small family business. We started traveling to Tanzania on June 22 flying Emirates and met up with Luna on June 24 in Arusha and this is where they took over! We were greeted upon arrival on June 24 by Michaela, her husband Alfani and one of their amazing sons, Arlo! Our safari jeep had a personalized tire cover saying “birthday girl on board” as we were celebrating our friend Sarah’s 40th!! Side note: Michaela ensured that the celebration continued at each accommodation by informing them and planning a birthday surprise at each overnight while on safari! Our ride to Rivertrees Country Inn (1st safari lodge) took about 45 minutes and during this time Arlo told us about so many animals and what he loves about Tanzania. We loved getting to chat with him and had the cutest photo taken! We enjoyed the grounds and had a nice dinner at Rivertrees and ended the night with a bottle of wine by the fire pit. Our safari was starting bright and early the next morning! We started our safari on June 25 when we meant our incredible guide Anderson! We visited 4 parks, had 5 game drives and stayed at 3 other overnight accommodations. Michaela arranged a flight to Zanzibar on June 30 for us to unwind for 4 days in the sun and sand at Z Hotel. We had an amazing time in Zanzibar laying poolside, swimming in the ocean, enjoying food, drinks and music and we even got to snorkel and swim with dolphins!! We are flying home out of Zanzibar via Qatar Airways tonight July 4. Everything was excellent and I would not have changed a thing! This review would be incomplete if time was not taken to specifically shout out Anderson. From his first smiling greeting on day one, we knew he would make this the best adventure - he provided so much information, laughter, and found every animal we wanted to see on safari - we seriously saw everything!! He always went at our pace to stop or go and keep the flow moving! He is a truly excellent guide and knew what we wanted or needed before we even did (ex. bathrooms for Danielle haha)! By the end of our safari tour we felt we had a new friend and so many inside jokes. Anderson made this a memorable experience and I was teary saying goodbye! On our flight to Zanzibar we said how much we missed him already! Throughout our trip Michaela stayed in touch via WhatsApp to check in on us and share some tips and recommendations. She loved seeing and reposting our photos and communicated everything we need to know and expect with all timing and transportation! Could not have had a better experience. Just got back home from a magical 10 day trip in Tanzania and Zanzibar. As I travel often, I really didn’t have time to plan this trip and I am so glad I chose Luna safari to handle everything for us. Michaela did a super job with creating a comprehensive itinerary and choosing great hotels throughout - I am a very picky person when it comes to accommodation and every single one Michaela chose were amazing. During our safari we had the sweetest and most knowledgeable guide we could hope for - Eric. He was such a joy to be around and even after hours of driving, he was always with high spirits. We will definitely miss him. We also did a local tour with Kennedy who was also so nice. Epic Family Adventure!
We just got home from the most amazing safari. If you are researching safari companies, do not hesitate to book with Luna Safari. Michaela is dream to work with and I love that they are a small family company. Michaela will wave her magic wand and make all your wishes come true! She is very accommodating (I changed our itinerary three times), offers great suggestions, and makes communication easy. Not only did Michaela craft the perfect trip for our family, she went out of her way to make sure our recent college and high school graduates were celebrated, from champagne and cake upon pick up at the airport to cakes at every lodge. They even had a cake after the most amazing balloon safari. What sealed the deal on making this the most fantastic trip was our PHENOMENAL guide, Erick. He is just the best and everyone in the family adored him. Thank you, Luna Safari, for such a memorable experience.
